Collingwood to pay $1.5m over five years for Adam Treloar to play for Bulldogs

The long drawn out saga that forced Adam Treloar out of the Magpies has finally been resolved with one club to be hit hard.

The Treloar saga appears to be settled.

The Adam Treloar saga is finally solved with the Collingwood Magpies to pay $1.5 million dollars for the star to play for the Western Bulldogs.

It has been the final sticking point in a bitter and ugly saga that has played out in the media with Treloar moved on with $4.5m left in his five-year contract.

Treloar reportedly sacrificed salary to ensure the Magpies could fit more players under the salary cap.

While the AFL let the move happen, the finer details of the contract hadn’t been worked out with the Bulldogs only willing to pay $600,000 a season for the five-year deal, leaving a $1.5m blackhole the clubs were haggling over.

The saga has finally been resolved however with reports the Magpies paying the remaining $1.5m over the next five year for Treloar to play at the Bulldogs.

The Dogs agreed to front-end some of the first-year wages to help the Magpies manage the salary cap drama.

The paperwork will reportedly be filed with the AFL in the next few days, bringing an end to the horrible scenario two months after the drama began.

It started when it was revealed Treloar’s wife and netball superstar Kim Ravaillion was set to resumer her Super Netball career with the Queensland Firebirds.

Although the pair have a young daughter and would be separated for months on end next season, they refused to buy into a narrative that it would be too difficult for their young family.

After Ravaillion’s return was revealed, Treloar told Fox Footy’s AFL 360 that he never considered leaving the Magpies despite being linked to a move to Queensland alongside her.

“The story should be about her and the way she’s been able to come back and get to where she’s got to signing a contract to play her professional sport,” Treloar said.

“She made a huge sacrifice for us as a family to start our family in the middle of her prime career. We chose to have a child and she sacrificed her body for that and gave up so much time and so much love to the game.”

But soon the rumours became stronger with Collingwood seemingly using the speculation to push Treloar out the door and free up much needed salary cap space.

Speculation came out of the club that the Magpies didn’t think Treloar could perform at his peak without his family, while there was the claim coach Nathan Buckley told Treloar in a phone call senior players wanted him gone, one the Pies mentor denied.

However, Treloar confirmed that conversation took place, but said he didn’t believe it and suggested the Magpies were saying anything they could to make him leave.

Anyone would have a bitter taste after what Adam Treloar’s been through.

The messy divorce from the club left a bitter taste in his mouth with the deal going through in the final minutes of the Trade Period.

Treloar has been open that the public moves to move him on hurt

“That was told to me in no uncertain way and that did hurt, because I know how close I am with the players,” Treloar said.

“To be told that, when I don’t think that’s the truth, and to be told that there’s some players that don’t want you there when I know the majority of the players love me and care for me, that did hurt a bit.

“But they were adamant on moving me on so no matter how they were going to go about it, it was going to happen. It was a fight up until the end, because I wanted to be at Collingwood.”
