Two Collingwood players have been involved in a car crash in Melbourne, the football club has confirmed.

Forward Beau McCreery and 22-year-old Josh Carmichael were involved in a multi-vehicle collision on their way to the airport where they were scheduled to fly out to Sydney ahead of the team’s blockbuster preliminary final against the Swans on Saturday night.

The club confirmed the news in a statement and said both players will travel to Sydney later on Friday.

The Magpies’ charter flight, scheduled for 10am (AEST), was delayed, NCA NewsWire reports.

The club posted on Twitter that neither player sustained any injuries.

Collingwood General Manager Football Graham Wright said in a statement released by the club: “The welfare of Beau, Josh and the driver of the other vehicle remains the absolute priority.

“Neither Beau nor Josh sustained any injuries, and we will provide them with the support required in this situation.”

The incident is reported to have occurred on the Monash Freeway.

Vic Roads has confirmed emergency services were called to an incident on the Monash Freeway near Warrigal Road in Chadstone in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

The Herald Sun reports both players were left “shaken” by the incident.

The Magpies are scheduled to have a closed training session at the SCG at 1pm (AEST) on Friday — just over 24 hours before their game with the Swans.
