‘Better than Katy Perry’: Fans react as Lime Cordiale kick off AFLW Grand Final
The pre-game entertainment for the AFLW Grand Final has hit the right tone with an Aussie band kicking off the competition’s showpiece event.
Aussie pop rockers Lime Cordiale have kicked off the AFLW Grand Final with a bang ahead of the clash between the North Melbourne Tasmania Kangaroos and the Brisbane Lions.
While the band aren’t quite as well-known as either Katy Perry, who earned a reported $5 million for five songs at the AFL men’s grand final, and The Kid Laroi who performed at the NRL grand final, it was a top performance that caught the attention of plenty of potential new fans.

The band are regulars in the Triple J Hottest 100 and graced the stage with four of their biggest tunes — Pedestal, Temper Temper, Robbery and Inappropriate Behaviour.
And the Sydney band had some very positive reviews.
One fan wrote: “Okay Lime Cordiale … me likey.”
Another suggested: “Lime Cordiale. Superb.”
A third added: “Lime Cordiale >>> Katy Perry”
A fourth quipped: “Lime Cordiale, the first band not associated with a TV singing contest show. That’s a step forward in Aussie music.”
A fifth posted: “I quite enjoyed that performance from Lime Cordiale. Seen a bit of them here and there and their music is pretty good. Kind of in my type of music genre.”
A sixth commented: “Lime Cordiale .....so much better then Katy Perry, LFG Lions.”
A seventh replied: “Crikeys, Lime Cordiale goes ok @aflw GF.”
Another person questioned: “Lime Cordiale for AFLW Katy Perry for AFL what’s the cost difference.”
After the performance, Collingwood star and two-time All-Australian Ruby Schleicher revealed she was a big fan of the band.
“Big Lime Cordiale fan — I saw them in Japan in February actually, so big fan,” she said.
“Wish I could have been there, but stuck with you two having to sing along.
“No, incredible, what an awesome performance.”
But while many people enjoyed the start of the AFLW decider, it’s never going to be everyone’s cup of tea, with a few more people proving you can’t please everyone.
One fan quipped: “Is Lime Cordiale what you get when you order Oasis from Temu?”
Another wrote: “Lime Cordial vs Katy Perry. I’ll take Kiss thank you.”
Another liked what they heard, but wasn’t too pleased with the visuals.
“Lime Cordiale sure sound great, would be nice if the crowd could actually watch them too,” the fan commented.
It just goes to show you can’t please everyone.
For the record, Lime Cordiale are two-time ARIA winning band having released three albums.
At the 2020 ARIA awards, the band were nominated in eight categories, winning the Breakthrough Artist for their second album 14 Steps to a Better You.
The band also won the Best Australian Live Act at the 2021 ARIAs for their Relapse Tour.
