Adelaide Oval’s spectators were treated to a glimpse of Port Adelaide tall forward Charlie Dixon’s stellar physique during Saturday’s victory over the Hawthorn Hawks.

During the second quarter of the round 13 encounter, Dixon lost possession of the footy inside 50 and collided with Hawthorn defender Ben Stratton, who was playing his 200th AFL game.

As the pair fell to the turf in a clumsy wrestle, the 107kg forward’s elbow pressed down on Stratton’s head, prompting an immediate reaction from teammates, who started a melee near the boundary.

The home crowd went berserk when Dixon eventually emerged from the commotion without his jersey on, his impressive rig on display for all to see. It was arguably the loudest cheer of the match.

“Have a look at Charlie’s rig,” Adelaide Crows great Mark Ricciuto joked cried on Fox Footy.

“Charlie will be wrapped with that, because he gets to get the big rig out. Give the fans what they want!

“He got him with the little elbow onto the face. You can tell the Hawks players didn’t like that happening to their captain in his 200th game, so they came in.”

Brisbane Lions legend Jonathon Brown responded: “Geez, he’s in good nick the big fella.”

As Dixon redressed himself, rookie Boyd Woodcock slotted a goal to extend Port Adelaide’s lead to eight points.

Former St Kilda star Nick Riewoldt praised Dixon after the altercation.

“This is good; this makes you feel like you’re actually in the contest,” Riewoldt said.

“You work all summer on your body, you might as well get the kit off and show it off.”

The Fox Footy commentators doubted Dixon would be suspended for the incident, but Brown predicted he could cop a $500 fine.

But not everyone found the altercation amusing — The Border Mail journalist Shana Morgan tweeted: “So Charlie Dixon puts his elbow down onto the head of an opponent behind play and the commentators are just laughing about it? I thought we wanted that c**p out of the game.”

Dixon scored his second major of the match after the halftime interval, increasing his season tally to 23.

Scores were tied at three-quarter time, but Port Adelaide went on to secure a gritty 9.14 (68) to 9.4 (58) victory and retain top spot on the AFL ladder.

Midfielder Chad Wingard and veteran Shaun Burgoyne kicked two goals each for the Hawks, while Port star Travis Boak mustered a game-high 33 disposals.
