Dayne Zorko has a promising career in broadcasting.

The Brisbane Lions skipper grabbed a microphone, whacked on some headphones and donned a fake moustache as he did his best impersonation of commentator Brian Taylor in the changerooms after his side’s 14. 7 (91) to 3.10 (28) win over Essendon last night.

Taylor’s “Roaming Brian” segment has become a hit in Channel 7’s footy coverage in recent times but given he’s unable to perform that role because of coronavirus, some teams are doing it themselves.

It didn’t work out so well for GWS last week when Tim Taranto swore twice on live TV in a matter of seconds after Phil Davis thrust a microphone in his face, but thankfully the Lions were better behaved.

Zorko took things further than any other club with his own roaming by wearing the fake moustache and showing all of Taylor’s trademark enthusiasm as he did the rounds.

The win over Essendon marked Mitch Robinson’s 200th AFL game and 100th in Brisbane colours but fans were surprised to see him blow up during the contest despite his team boasting a comfortable lead.

Robinson chucked his mouthguard away in disgust at one point but thanks to Zorko, we know why.

Zorko: How far did you throw that mouthguard mate?

Robinson: I found it, that’s all I care about so I don’t end up like Rat (Zac Bailey) with a missing tooth.

Zorko: What happened? Why’d you throw it?

Robinson: I just got stitched up by the umpires. I wanted to get a goal in my 200th and they just took it away from me, so I tried to throw my mouthguard at the player and I missed him. But it went 40-odd metres.

Zorko: I was sitting on the boundary I thought it nearly poked me in the eye.

Robinson signed off with a cheeky one-liner that made his teammates laugh, saying: “Thanks Brian, appreciate it mate.”

Zorko wanted to brush Harris Andrews when he tried to join the fun, telling the defender “you’ve spoken too much already”, then poked fun at first-gamer Connor Ballenden by comparing his head to a microphone.

Sam Skinner also greeted “Brian” when Zorko cornered him, acknowledging the uncanny resemblance.
