THE Swans look set to have their biggest name back on the biggest stage after Adam Goodes successfully completed training yesterday.

Missing for the past six weeks with a quad strain, Sydney's co-captain has one last hurdle, training tomorrow (Wednesday) night, before taking on reigning premier Geelong in the only Friday night match of the year at the SCG.

The game is almost sold out, prompting the Swans to request more Friday night matches next season to maximise big crowds and ratings.

Sydney also wants to be the first AFL team to play matches on Good Friday, as revealed in The Daily Telegraph yesterday.

The Swans have played just four Friday night matches at the SCG since 1997 and only one in the past seven years, against Carlton last season.

Swans coach John Longmire was delighted with the way Goodes trained yesterday. "If he pulls up okay and then trains well again on Wednesday we'll name him in the team," Longmire told the Daily Telegraph yesterday.

"He's been doing a fair bit over the last three or four weeks and has really stepped it up."

In contrast, leading ruckman Shane Mumford, who missed six weeks with a back problem earlier in the season, did little at training yesterday, but Longmire claimed this was his usual routine and the big man will line up against his old side.

As well as Goodes the Swans will also have to fit pocket rocket Ben McGlynn back in the team following a week's suspension then the bye, making it a tough selection week given the Swans are fourth on the ladder with an eight-three win-loss record.

"With Goodsey being out for a reasonable slab and Mummy missing a fair bit of footy as well, its good to be able to win with a couple of important players out of your team," Longmire said yesterday.

"That's a credit to the whole playing group weve been able to lift and cover those players."

Longmire strongly endorsed the clubs push to play more Friday night football.

"When I was playing (with North Melbourne) we played on Friday night every second week (at the MCG) and I think it it's fantastic," Longmire said.

"We regularly had 60,000, 70,000, 80,000 on Friday nights.

"Friday night games are really exciting and people really supported them."

Longmire was also keen to play on Good Friday, which has been sacrosanct in the AFL.

"I support the concept," he said.

"Sydney is a challenging market place with different sports being played on Good Friday up here.

"It doesn't mean we have to do it but we must certainly consider doing it. I think it's a good thing."
