Woman demands apology from Philip Nitschke for dad’s death

A woman has reportedly disrupted a euthanasia conference in Perth to confront Philip Nitschke about the death of her father.

News Explains: The right to die in Australia

A young woman has reportedly confronted controversial former doctor Philip Nitschke at a pro-euthanasia forum in Perth.

The woman demanded Mr Nitschke, who has been dubbed Dr Death, apologise for what happened to her father, according to Nine.

“The information you put out kills people who are not in a rational state of mind to make that decision,” she said.

The woman said her father, who was aged in his 60s, took his own life two years ago after getting advice from Mr Nitschke’s Exit International group, which supports legalising voluntary euthanasia and assisted suicide.

She said her father had depression but was not terminally ill.

Mr Nitschke’s appearance coincided with the introduction of the voluntary assisted dying legislation in Western Australia.

Earlier this month, it emerged that a 61-year-old mother-of-three, who had battled breast cancer for almost a decade, was the first person in Victoria to end her life using the state’s new voluntary assisted dying laws.
