West Australian Police find body after 36-year-old fisherman goes missing at Cape Arid
Police have given a grim update in the wide scale search for a missing fisherman who slipped from rocks and plunged into the water.
Police have found the body of a fisherman who was reported missing after he slipped off rocks plunging into the water off the coast of Western Australia.
West Australia Police were called after reports a 36-year-old man had fallen into the water while fishing Cape Arid near the mouth of Thomas River in the Esperance area abut 2.20pm on Saturday.
The man was fishing with a family member at the time he disappeared.
Police confirmed SES crews were assisting in the attempt to recover a body, believed to be the missing fisherman about 8.45am.
It’s understood the body was in an extremely difficult position within a rock formation off the coast of Cape Arid.
A WA Police spokesman said the marine search was “officially suspended pending new information” in the coastal area off Cape Arid about 1.30pm on Tuesday.
The family of the fisherman have been advised.
A number of resources was used during the massive marine search, including vessels, jetskis and air assets and the SES, which were assisting on foot at nearby beaches.
