FREMANTLE Docker Shane Yarran has been charged with aggravated common assault, allegedly against a family member.
The Fremantle forward advised the club late Tuesday that he had been charged with aggravated common assault.
Police will allege the incident involved a family member and occurred at the weekend.
The 27-year-old, who is on leave and due to appear in court next month, also advised the club that he intends to plead not guilty.
Johnson is alleged to have assaulted a man, a Bunbury schoolteacher, in a Leederville kebab shop in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The alleged victim reported the matter at his local police station on Monday and handed over a video of a man, whom he claimed to be Johnson, with his pants down in the shop.
The teacher claimed he was spotted filming the incident and was allegedly struck by the 31-year-old Docker in an ensuing argument.
Referring to the Yarran charge, Fremantle chief executive Steve Rosich said: “As the matter, which Shane advised the club of yesterday, is now before the courts, the club will not comment beyond this statement until the matter is resolved.
“An allegation of this nature is treated with the utmost seriousness by the club and we will continue to monitor the legal process closely.”
The club has advised the AFL of the matter.
Yarran is due to resume official pre-season training next week.
