A massive inferno has erupted in a car yard in Perth, resulting in the destruction of at least 70 of vehicles.

A massive blaze has erupted in a car yard in Perth, resulting in the destruction of dozens of cars.

The fire occurred at Pickles car yard, located near Bibra Lake, in the southern region of the city around 5.15pm on Friday.

The towering inferno ravaged three levels of stacked cars in storage, as 10 fire crews battled the flames until they were finally extinguished at 8.30pm.

Approximately 70 cars were wrecked in total.

The aftermath of the fire saw smoke emanating over adjacent streets and the public were cautioned to stay inside where possible. Drivers were advised to use headlights while driving through the dense smog.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

The car yard, which had only recently closed, houses hundreds of vehicles and boats.

A spokesman for Pickles expressed their main priority was to provide support to the fire crews in extinguishing the fire.

After the fire was dealt with, the spokesman stated that the company would work with authorities to determine the extent of the damage and the cause of the blaze.

Pickles, which was founded in 1964 and has 27 yards across Australia, established the car yard in 2015.

In the previous financial year, the company sold over 228,000 vehicles and more than $460 million in transport and construction equipment.
