CCTV shows ‘offensive’ mail drop before home linked to teen’s horror assault destroyed in alleged arson

Police are probing the link between an arson attack on a home where a young girl was allegedly violently assaulted, and the delivery of “offensive” mail before the blaze.

CCTV footage has revealed the alleged distribution of “offensive and harassing” materials before a Queensland home linked to the assault of a teenage girl was destroyed in a suspicious blaze.

Police are now looking for three men who may be able to assist their investigations, after footage captured the material being delivered in the house’s mailbox days before the fire on March 29.

That day, emergency services were called to the Tewantin home in Waratah Close about 1.30am to find it engulfed in flames.

No-one was inside at the time.

“The house was destroyed by the deliberately lit fire,” a Queensland Police spokesman said.

Police allege the home is linked to the assault, deprivation of liberty and robbery of a teenage girl on March 11.

It is alleged the girl, 13, was repeatedly assaulted, tied up, cut, burned and hit with bottles by three other girls, aged between 12 and 14.

In the CCTV distributed by police on Friday, a group of unknown people can be seen allegedly distributing harassing and offensive mail in the Tewantin area.

A third incident may also be related to the inferno, whereby an unknown group of people distributed harassing and offensive mail in the Tewantin area prior to the Waratah Close fire.

“Investigators believe there may be a link between the three incidents,” a police spokesman said.
