A mother who died in a suspected murder-suicide in Melbourne’s east in the presence of her young son has been remembered as an “absolutely lovely” woman who was always smiling.

Wei Hu, 40, and his former partner Yingying Zhou, 36, have been identified as the man and woman found dead in a parked white Audi SUV in Nunawading about 6pm on Saturday.

“The female was deceased when emergency services arrived, the male died at the scene a short time later,” Victoria Police said in a statement on Saturday.

Police said they were not looking for anybody else regarding the deaths outside the single-storey brick property on Mt Pleasant Rd.

Mr Hu is believed to have killed his estranged partner in the driveway.

Neighbour Hans Pecar told reporters: “It’s terrible, I feel really bad about it.

“I never would have thought something like that would happen.”

Another said the “fantastic little kid” had witnessed his parents’ deaths.

“He ran here and knocked on my door, banged on my door to get help,” the neighbour told the Herald Sun.

“He got help from somebody. Somebody rang triple-0 and looked after him until the police came. It’s bloody shocking.”

The neighbour, who knew the couple for almost a decade, described Ms Zhou, also known as Vivian, as a lovely mother who always had a smile on her face.

“She was lovely, absolutely lovely,” he said. “She was always smiling.”

Mr Hu was an avid runner and worked as a library technician at Scotch College, an elite private boys’ school in Hawthorn.

He reportedly moved into the Nunawading property from their Blackburn home less than a week before the deaths.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
