Loved ones of Jesse Baird have joined together for a memorial in Melbourne
Hundreds of mourners have gathered to celebrate and honour the life of former Channel 10 reporter Jesse Baird, who was allegedly murdered by a police officer.
Hundreds of mourners dressed in brightly coloured clothing have gathered in Melbourne to remember former Network 10 reporter Jesse Baird, who was allegedly murdered by a policeman.
Family, friends and colleagues of the beloved 26-year-old joined together to farewell Mr Baird at a memorial service at the Plenty Ranges Art and Convention Centre north of Melbourne on Tuesday morning.
Blue balloons spelling out Mr Baird’s name and framed photographs of the Melbourne-born entertainment reporter lined the stage as attendees honoured and celebrated Mr Baird’s life.
A number of Channel 10 stars, AFL umpires and Jesse Baird’s siblings were among the attendees seen donning colourful attire and embracing mourners outside the venue.
In a touching eulogy, Mr Baird’s mother Helen Baird paid tribute to her son and said “there is less sparkle in the world” now that he was gone.
“My beautiful, generous, loving, precious, caring and talented boy, our hearts and lives are changed forever,” she said.
“I promise to fight for you and make you proud. My heart is broken, my darling boy, and I love you more than this world.”
Mr Baird’s father Gary Baird held back tears as he described his son’s empathy towards others as both “unrivalled and immeasurable”.
“You squeezed 100 years of life into 26 and our hearts are broken. You will be missed but never forgotten,” he said.
Mr Baird’s siblings also spoke at the memorial, describing their brother as an “inspiration”.
“You were the absolute light of my life, my biggest inspiration and my biggest cheerleader,” Kourtnee Baird said.
“I will forever by proud of your achievements, inspired by your outlook on life and hold you in my heart,” Brenden Baird said.
Network 10 presenter Daniel Doody was also among those who gave a eulogy at the service.

Mr Baird’s loved ones gathered outside the auditorium to blow bubbles at the end of the service.
Mr Baird and his partner Qantas flight attendant Luke Davies were allegedly murdered by serving NSW police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon in Mr Baird’s Paddington terrace on February 19.
The couple’s bodies were found at a rural property at Bungonia, two hours south of Sydney, after a major manhunt was launched on February 20.
