Horsham cemetery burnout bandit interrupts funeral, flees scene, police say

A day of mourning has been interrupted by a Commodore driver ripping burnouts, damaging a parked car and fleeing the scene, police allege.

A man ripping burnouts at a cemetery in regional Victoria has allegedly disrupted a funeral and fled the scene, smashing the window of another car with rocks in the process.

Police are looking to speak to a man with a distinctive grey Commodore in relation to the incident in Horsham last week.

Police allege after doing burnouts the driver took off, left the road and flicked rocks onto a car. A woman was in the car and the back window smashed.

It’s alleged the Commodore had no licence plates, and the driver was confronted at the scene but fled.

Police have released images of the driver and his grey Holden VE Commodore SS station wagon, which has a yellow rim or ring of yellow on the tyre.

The incident happened near the Horsham Cemetery, about 3pm on Monday, June 24.

Police allege the man was doing burnouts on Wawunna Road while a service was happening at the cemetery.

The car carried on along Davis Road, which borders the cemetery.

On Davis Road the car left the road, causing large rocks to be flicked up at parked vehicles, police say.

Police were told a woman was sitting inside one of the cars when the rocks smashed the back window.

The woman was not physically injured.

The driver was confronted but allegedly refused to give their details and left the scene.

The man is described as being of medium build with short brown hair and a short beard. He was wearing black pants, a black jacket and sunglasses.

Police are asking for any witnesses or anybody with footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
