Daylesford: Enchanting garden oasis ready to branch out with a new owner
A house set amid a secret garden, complete with ponds, a gazebo, conservatory and outdoor spa — just a stone’s throw from Hepburn Regional Park — has hit the market.
A house set within a garden oasis of flowers, ponds and meandering paths is ready to blossom under a new owner on the edge of Daylesford
Set on 4409sq m at 2861 Ballan Daylesford Rd, the four-bedroom home is named Birchgrove after one of the tree species that flourishes in its outdoor space.
The owners, who moved in eight years ago, have enjoyed tending to their raised vegetable patches, drinking champagne in the sheltered outdoor spa and spending time in the glass conservatory.

“Looking out to the trees and nature has been quite magical and very cleansing for me personally,” one of the owners says.
“We will definitely both miss the quiet times – and the fun times – in the back gazebo listening to the running water with a gin and tonic or a tea, or pretending to fish with our grandchildren.”
Luckily, the well-established garden requires hardly any maintenance but delights their senses throughout all seasons.
“Summer’s green display is sensational whilst autumn blows our minds with its stunning leaf colours,” the vendor says.
“You’ll be inundated with daffodils, irises, bluebells, tulips, foxgloves and hyacinths in springtime.”
The house’s dining area has bi-fold doors that open onto a deck with views of the surrounding greenery.
“So many enjoyable friends and family gatherings have been held here,” the owner says.
After operating a catering company for more than a decade prior to moving to Daylesford, the owners renovated the house’s kitchen, adding Smeg appliances, a dishwasher and imported designer fittings.
A recently-installed gas log heater warms the main living room and there’s heated towel rails in the bathrooms.
Dark oak floorboards, ducted heating, split systems and ceiling fans are among the other features.
There’s also a double carport, large garden shed and workshop, and a second access point from Stoney Creek Rd.
Another attraction is the sheer amount of space at the property which means both privacy and quiet.
But handily, Hepburn Regional Park, Lake Daylesford, shops and restaurants are all close by.
“Amongst all this peace is our advantage of being able to access the centre of town in three minutes,” the owner says.
“Also I’m at the lake in two minutes for my walks which I absolutely love and will miss terribly.”
McQueen Real Estate director Kim McQueen says that in addition to being a short drive from the heart of Daylesford, Birchgrove is an easy 20-minute walk to the town’s centre.
“It is a real garden oasis on the edge of Daylesford,” she says.
The property is for sale with a $1.695m-$1.75m price guide.
