Postman punched, robbed in Footscray West daylight attack

A POSTMAN was punched and knocked off his bike before his phone and other items were stolen during a daylight attack in Melbourne’s inner west.

A POSTMAN was punched and knocked off his bike before his phone and other items were stolen during a daylight attack in Melbourne’s inner west.

The postman was delivering mail on a pushbike just before 1.10pm on December 1 when he was approached by a man on Soudan St in Footscray West.

After asking for directions, the man punched him in the face, knocking him off the bike and stealing his phone and other items.

The offender fled north along the street to a waiting vehicle, believed to be a grey or silver Honda CRV with the partial registration of XXM.

The victim, aged in his 50s, sustained facial injuries as a result of the assault.

Police say the offender is perceived to be of European appearance and about 193cm tall with a muscular build and tanned skin.

At the time of the incident, he was wearing shorts and a fluorescent vest, and also had a distinctive crescent moon and star tattoo on his right arm.
