Man stabbed in Southbank while coming to woman’s aid
A MAN has been stabbed when he came to the aid of a woman being assaulted in Melbourne’s Southbank last night.
A GOOD Samaritan has been stabbed while helping a woman being assaulted in Southbank last night.
The 24-year-old man, who had just finished work at a nearby restaurant, went to assist a woman being assaulted by another man at Yarra Promenade just before midnight.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Creina O’Grady said when the victim tried to intervene, the man stabbed him in the left side of his abdomen.
The attacker ran off along Yarra Promenade while the man approached a nearby parking attendant for help. The victim was left with non-life threatening injuries.
He is described as being about 180cm tall, and wearing a black and white cap, a grey long-sleeved shirt with a large blue, white and red Tommy Hilfiger motif.
He was also wearing dark blue shorts and white runners, and carrying a black satchel, worn across his chest.
Police said the offender had earlier tried to pick a fight with people walking along promenade, and have urged two other men they believe were assaulted prior to the stabbing to contact them.
They have also urged the woman who was being assaulted to come forward to help with the investigation.
