Man forced to defend himself with stick during violent home invasion

Three people broke through the kitchen window of a house, bashing a man inside, with police trying to establish a motive behind the attack.

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was forced to defend himself during a violent home invasion northeast of Melbourne.

At around 7.30pm on Tuesday, three people climbed through a kitchen window at a home on Stephens Rd, Healesville, attacking a 47-year-old man with “edged weapons”.

The three offenders who broke into the home were unknown to the victim, who attempted to fight them off with a stick.

The 47-year-old suffered serious injuries during the incident, after which the intruders fled the scene on foot.

Nothing was stolen and the motive behind the attack is not yet known.

Detectives from the Yarra Ranges Crime Unit have confirmed investigations are underway, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.
