An internal investigation has led to charges being laid against two Victorian police officers.

Victoria Police on Tuesday revealed the two officers have been charged with false imprisonment.

The investigation comes after an incident that occurred in early 2022, although the circumstances surrounding the event are not yet known.

Professional Standards Command detectives announced on Tuesday two western region police officers, a 41-year-old male senior constable and a 39-year-old female leading senior constable, had been charged.

The alleged incident occurred in January last year while both officers were on-duty.

Both officers are scheduled to appear at a magistrates’ court at a later date.
