A police officer has been charged after he allegedly sped through Sydney’s southwest at dangerous speeds.

A police officer has been charged with driving dangerously after he allegedly sped through Sydney’s south west on a motorbike.

At 12.10am on Sunday, officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command spotted two motorcycles travelling together on the M5 through Liverpool.

Police helicopters followed the bikes before they were pulled over at the intersection of the Hume Highway and Hoxton Park Rd.

A 22-year-old special constable was issued with a court attendance notice for driving in a dangerous manner.

His companion, a 19-year-old man, was also charged with the same offence.

Both are due in Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday April 12.

Police confirmed the employment status of the serving special constable is under review as investigations continue.

In an unrelated matter, a 21-year-old man is due in Parramatta Local Court on Sunday after he allegedly sped away from police at 170km/h on a motorcycle while unlicensed.

Police spotted a Suzuki GSXR motorcycle travelling on the Hume Highway with its number plate obscured just before 12.30am.

The rider allegedly sped off and police abandoned pursuit due to safety concerns.

The rider was later arrested hiding in a bush.

He was charged with not stopping in a police pursuit, drive at speed, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, unlicensed rider, ride an unregistered vehicle, and exceed speed over 45km/h.
