A VIOLENT brawl outside a Melbourne pub has left a man in hospital in an induced coma after he had his face allegedly slashed with a box-cutter.
Police say a 42-year-old man was injured after he approached three men at a Brighton hotel on Wednesday night.
It’s alleged he punched one of the trio before a fight broke out on the footpath on New Street outside New Bay Hotel.
One of the men allegedly slashed the victim’s face with a box-cutter, which had reportedly been taken from the pub, reported Nine News.
The bleeding 42-year-old reportedly fled into a nearby house to ask for help.
“All I could hear was this man saying ‘quick lady, call the police, because somebody is going to try and kill me’,” grandmother Effie told Ten Eyewitness News.
“My gates were open so he probably thought quick I’ll duck in here.”
Police are still investigating why the brawl started.
“Until we find out everybody’s version of events we won’t be able to say as to who is at fault,” Detective Sergeant Gerry Richardson told reporters.
A 47-year-old Brighton man has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury and two others were released from custody pending further inquiries.
