EXTRA resources to combat family violence have been welcomed by White Ribbon Tasmania ambassadors.

The State Government has announced the creation of six new positions to support children affected by domestic violence as part of the Safe Homes, Safe Families action plan.

White Ribbon ambassador and Mission Australia state director Noel Mundy welcomed the announcement and said the action plan was proving to be effective at addressing family violence issues.

“It’s a living document so changes can be made and better outcomes reached because of that,” he said.

Education and Training Minister Jeremy Rockliff said the support positions would be based at child and family centres in Bridgewater, East Devonport and Ravenswood.

“These staff, including a social worker and psychologist, will work with individual students and families, and collaborate with school-based professional support staff to better understand the impact of family violence and trauma on the learning and wellbeing of children,” he said.

Mr Mundy will be joined by other local ambassadors, including Tasmania Police Commissioner Darren Hine, for the White Ribbon Walk at St David’s Park today at 1pm.
