Tip-off sparks dump hunt in search for missing Ulverstone man Noel Joseph Langham

POLICE are hoping to dig up evidence after receiving tip-offs that items linked to the disappearance of an Ulverstone man could be found at the local dump.

POLICE are hoping to dig up evidence after receiving tip-offs that items linked to the disappearance of an Ulverstone man could be found at the local dump.

Detective Kim Steven did not say police were looking for human remains at this stage but confirmed information had been gathered to prompt a search of the tip.

“We are not looking for a body particularly but evidence to give us more information about what might have happened to Noel Ingham,’ Det Steven said.

Eight detectives are now working on the missing persons case and police say they hold increasingly grave concerns for Mr Ingham’s welfare.

The 58-year-old was last seen in late July. The missing person’s case was opened three weeks ago.

Mr Ingham’s vehicle, a 2002 silver Jeep Grand Cherokee, registered number EN 6838, is also missing.

The search at the tip site is expected to last several days.

“We might find what we are looking for in five minutes, we might not turn anything up at all,” Det Steven said.

“It is not an easy job but we have to cover every avenue of inquiry.”

Police have a certain timeline to guide their search.

“The period of interest is the last week of July and the first week of August,” he said.

“There are a number of persons of interest and we have not closed our mind to a number of scenarios.”

Police are keen to in find Mr Ingham’s car.

“A car cannot just disappear. We ask members of the public if they have been offered the car, seen it burnt out or no where it is to come forward,” Det Steven said.
