FRANKLIN Square will be all the rage on Friday nights until April, with two dozen stalls set up to feed the family with street-food-style offerings.
Street Eats @ Franko, which starts tonight, will offer street food, live music, films and performance art.
There will be 23 stalls, including 15 savoury and five dessert stalls, two bars serving Tasmanian beer, wine and cider and a spirits bar.
The vibe will be relaxed and family friendly, with an enclosed kids area, large picnic rugs on the grass and seating around the fountain.
“The stalls will circle the fountain, facing in,” said event owner Madi Seeber-Peattie, who runs Hobart Farm Gate Market.
“We’ve been really clear with our producers that it’s about showcasing exclusively Tasmanian produce and our craft beverage industries.
“It’s about being able to grab something to eat in one hand and hold a nice glass of wine in the other.”
Stalls include Diemen Grill, Tik’s Thai, Georgia’s Kuzina and Lady Hester.
Entertainment will be a focus, with provisions for two stages and buskers.
“Once it gets dark we will be moving into outdoor films, and projections onto the Treasury building,” Mr Seeber-Peattie said.
For the first event, the entertainment line-up includes Craicpot, a five-piece Irish rock band playing between 4.30-6.30pm and The Hobart Funk Collective, a 10-piece funk band, between 6.30pm-8.30pm.
