SMOKE from a fuel reduction burn at Glenorchy may be visible in parts of Hobart for some days, depending on wind conditions, the Tasmania Fire Service says.
The fire service issued a smoke alert for the 50ha burn at Limekiln Gully, west of the top of Tolosa St, warning of smoke around Hobart, Lenah Valley, South Hobart and Mount Nelson.
The TFS said most of the burn was done today but crews would remain in the area patrolling and extinguishing hot spots for the next few days.
People with medical conditions were advised to have a personal plan for avoiding smoke from the burn, and people driving in the area were advised to use their headlights and drive slowly.
The fire service said people should stay out of the burn site while the burn was taking place and for the following few days until safety checks along tracks and trails were made.
Advice for people with medical conditions is available from www.dhhs.tas.gov.au/peh/alerts/air/precautions and www.asthmatas.org.au
