A MAN from Hobart’s Eastern Shore has died in a pedestrian accident on the Southern Outlet.

A MAN from Hobart’s Eastern Shore has died in a pedestrian accident on the Southern Outlet.

Police said the accident happened just after 3am today when the 25-year-old man from Tranmere was walking on the outlet, about 500m south of Davey St in the left lane.

“The male pedestrian was struck by a south-bound Nissan X-Trail and, as a result of the crash, the male pedestrian was killed instantly,” Senior Constable Adam Hall said in a statement.

“The Nissan was being driven by a 21-year-old female from Geilston Bay.

“The female driver along with three female passengers were not injured during the collision.

“At the time of the crash it was raining and visibility was restricted.

“Excessive vehicle speed or the use of alcohol are not suspected as a contributing factor in the crash, however investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing and a report will now be prepared for the coroner.”

The highway was closed at the intersection with Davey St for about four hours while crash investigators and forensic officers examined the scene.

Constable Hall would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the Nissan or the pedestrian at the time of the collision or just before it happened.
