Point to Pinnacle course change no issue for winner Dylan Evans
A CHANGE of course wasn’t enough to disrupt Launceston athlete Dylan Evans’ push for a third consecutive Point to Pinnacle title.
LAUNCESTON’S Dylan Evans has won his third straight Point to Pinnacle race, despite a major alteration to the course.
Race organisers changed the course after they visited the summit of Mt Wellington early this morning and were unable to see more than two metres in front of them.
A decision was made to run the race from Wrest Point to Bracken Lane and return rather than go all the way to the mountain summit.
It was the third time in 22 years the race route had to be redirected.
But the change of course didn’t stop Evans from claiming a hat-trick of crowns.
He put in a late surge to win the event in one hour and 11 minutes.
“It was completely different. I knew it was going to be quick on the way down,” Evans said.
“It’s one of the toughest races in the world. You have to expect it to be uphill, downhill, raining cold — you have to expect anything.”
For the second year in a row Kate Pedley was the first female across the line, winning in one hour and 20 minutes.
