Ever since it was announced that South Africa would play a Test in Hobart for the very first time, Cricket Tasmania’s game development officer for female cricket has been counting down the days till the historic clash.
“I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would watch South Africa play at Blundstone Arena,” she said. “It’s one of the best things that has happened this season.”
Next year Blignaut will celebrate 10 years of living in Tasmania, but not even that can sway her from showing her support for the Proteas.
“I don’t think it will be a question at all,” she said.
“My loyalty lies with South Africa for this one.”
This has led to plenty of friendly competition in the Cricket Tasmania offices but after the South Africans inflicted Australia’s first loss in a summer opener since 1988 at the WACA, Blignaut has certainly got the upper hand.
“I did cop a bit after the first day but since then not so much,” Blignaut said. “It’s funny what can happen and hopefully I’ll see another good performance by them at Blundstone Arena.”
