Luxury living in an idyllic setting, a ‘joy’
Set comfortably into the landscape, this gorgeous contemporary home at Acton Park offers a once in a lifetime, family friendly way of life.
FROM its perfect position overlooking landscaped gardens and an expanse of lavender to the water beyond, this picture perfect Acton Park home is as tranquil as it is architecturally clever.
Good design can last a lifetime and this property has that special feeling where every detail was clearly carefully considered before its construction.
And the result? It is simply outstanding.
The homeowner and her husband entrusted DW+A architect and director Xavier Wakefield with the creation of their home and, 13 years later, she speaks highly of the experience.
“He was so easy to work with, had such lovely ideas and understood exactly what we wanted,” she said.
“We wanted a long, low house, positioned in the top corner of the five acre block. Our brief was to build a good-size family home with four bedrooms across one level.
“Capturing the warmth of all-day sun and using large, double glazed windows to maximise the fabulous views were also important aspects of the design.
“Every room has a lovely view to enjoy, particularly the main living rooms, the master bedroom, the formal dining room and the kitchen-family room.
“And they all open with double glazed doors out onto the terrace.”
Approaching the property, driving past some lightly timbered spaces to the top of the acreage, this property has the feeling of being a “haven”, a retreat from the hustle and bustle.
“A lot of people that have come to visit have commented that they did not know that this existed,” the owner said.
Set on 2.29ha, this superb four-bedroom home is situated on a gently sloping block, maximising the views over the countryside to Pittwater, Barilla Bay, the mouth of the Coal River and the valley toward Richmond.
With mindful excavations, the owners created a plateau on which to build their long and low, north-facing home.
Passing a large three-bay American-style barn garage and workshop on the left, the driveway gives way to an extensive manicured gravel area from which there is access to the house and the incorporated double garage.
The remaining three sides of the building look onto sweeping lawns and garden.
Pittosporum hedges on either side of the building create boundaries for the home garden, while a lavender hedge undulates across the front of the man-made plateau and divides the garden from the grazing land below.
The grounds not only look fantastic, they provide wind protection and are easy to maintain. And, there is plenty of space for an orchard should the next owner be so inspired.
On entry into the house a striking sandstone wall in the foyer immediately grabs attention and it has a story to tell.
“We had previously lived on a farm near Bothwell and on it there was a tumbled down barn,” the property owner said.
“My husband re-used the sandstone blocks from the farm in this house and created a lovely feature that became the inspiration for the interior decor throughout the home.”
A picture window at the far end of the entry hall frames the Pittwater vista.
Next stop is the formal sitting and dining room, and through to the casual sitting, dining and kitchen area which look onto the garden, the paved terrace and beyond.
For those that love to entertain, this indoor-outdoor space will undoubtedly be the place to be.
The spacious master bedroom has the convenience and luxury of a private ensuite while three more generous bedrooms and the family bathroom complete the accommodation wing of the home.
Being only 10 minutes from Hobart Airport and 20 minutes from the CBD, this property offers the best of both worlds: proximity to local and interstate cities, as well as the relaxing atmosphere of this idyllic country setting.
With plenty of room for a swimming pool, a tennis court, or even a pony if desired, this property has wide appeal as a family home or as a beautiful rural retreat.
While the time is right to downsize, the owner said she was “really going to miss this house”.
“It is a beautiful place to be,” she said.
“The thing that I will miss the most is … everything. Living here has been an absolute joy.”
No.910 Acton Road is listed with Knight Frank and priced at $1.2m+. An open home will run on Saturday October 31 from 1-1.30pm.
