FORMER Clarence Football Club star Danny Noonan has appeared in the Hobart Supreme Court on dishonesty charges.

Mr Noonan appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court in September, where he pleaded not guilty to the alleged embezzlement of $650,000, and was bailed to appear in the Supreme Court.

This morning, Crown Prosecutor Jackie Hartnett told the court that police were still investigating Mr Noonan’s alleged conduct.

A central figure in Clarence’s golden era of the 1990s, Mr Noonan, 47, has been charged with stealing by misappropriation for conduct alleged to have occurred on March 24 this year.

Mr Noonan played reserves football for Carlton before joining Clarence in 1988 and winning the club’s best and fairest award in 1990.

He was drafted by the Brisbane Bears in 1991 and kicked 19 goals over 55 games in three seasons. Mr Noonan returned to Clarence in 1994.

His Tasmanian career included four TFL grand finals, three premierships, three club best and fairest awards, back-to-back William Leitch Medals in 1995 and 1996 and the Darrel Baldock Medal as best afield in the Roos’ seven-point win over the Dockers in the 1997 decider. He retired after that season.

Chief Justice Alan Blow bailed Mr Noonan to reappear in the Supreme Court on January 30, 2017.
