6.10pm: An alert for residents at Lymington south of Cygnet has been downgraded from emergency.

A watch and act message has been sprung for residents living on Riseleys Road, Donohue Road, Kubes Road, Martins Road and Petcheys Bay area.

Tasmania Fire Service urged residents to monitor conditions that are changeable.

Initial: The Tasmanian Fire Service has issued an emergency fire warning for Lymington south of Cygnet, urging residents of Donohue Road, Kubes Road, and Petcheys Bay to leave immediately.

The TFS said an uncontrolled bushfire at Direens Road in Lymington was travelling towards Petcheys Bay, and was expected to impact homes within an hour.

The agency warned that fires under these conditions were expected to be uncontrollable and fast moving, with burning embers possibly threatening homes before the main fire arrives.

The TFS is in attendance, with conditions are expected to be changeable.

“If you are going to leave, make sure there is a clear road to a safer place,” the TFS said.

“If you don’t have a safe route to a safer place, shelter inside the nearest building, regularly checking your surroundings and putting out any fires near the building until the fire passes.

“There is a nearby safer place at Cygnet Yacht Club – Cygnet. Only travel if it is safe for you to do so.

“Your home can only protect your life if it is actively defended, and it has been prepared for severe conditions.

“Do not travel to the area, as the roads are expected to be highly dangerous.”
