Two drivers taken to hospital after serious crash on the Tasman Highway near Mornington

A 23-YEAR-OLD Sorell man remains in a critical condition in hospital after a four-vehicle crash on the Tasman Highway at Mornington.

A 23-YEAR-OLD Sorell man remains in a critical condition in hospital after a four-vehicle crash on the Tasman Highway at Mornington.

The female driver of a silver Toyota Echo was also taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital after the crash.

Her condition was last night listed as stable.

Tasmania Police this morning renewed a call for any witnesses to the crash to come forward.

The crash occurred just after 3.30pm when a white utility being driven by the 23-year-old and the Toyota collided as they drove towards Sorell.

Police said both vehicles lost control, with the utility overturning and sliding “for a distance” before hitting two stationary vehicles.

The drivers of the stationary vehicles were not treated in hospital.

Emergency services remained at the scene of the crash for about four hours.

Sorell-bound traffic was diverted and peak hour traffic experienced significant delays.

Metro also diverted some Eastern Shore bus services.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the utility or Echo before the incident is urged to contact police on 131 444.
