Radio host's shocking on air comment

HOBART radio host Anna Dare has resigned from her role at 7HOFM after a furore over on-air comments she made about the Dreamworld tragedy.

Ms Dare was suspended from her job by Grant Broadcasting late last month after she inappropriately referenced the theme park incident — in which four people were killed — during a Secret Sound segment.

Grant Broadcasting CEO Grant Cameron this morning confirmed Ms Dare has decided not to return to the breakfast show she shared with former My Kitchen Rules contestant Mick Newell.

Mr Cameron said the broadcaster had offered to support Ms Dare’s return to air but she had decided to take some time out of the industry.

“It has been a tough time for her,” Mr Cameron said.

“We are now looking for another presenter to join the 7HOFM brekky team.”

During the Secret Sound segment, Ms Dare said the sound that listeners had to identify in order to win the $140 prize sounded “violent”.

“It’s not getting stuck in a conveyor belt at a theme park is it? Too soon?”

Ms Dare’s co-host appeared shocked by the comment and simply responded with a sigh.

She was taken off air directly after making the comment and was then suspended.

The broadcaster apologised for her remark, saying it demonstrated “a serious lapse in judgment”.

“This was a dreadful mistake and the announcer is devastated at such a lapse,” Mr Cameron said at the time, “as employers, we must also consider her wellbeing”.

Ms Dare joined Mr Newell on the 7HOFM breakfast show in January this year.

She moved from the Gold Coast to take up the position.
