Severe weather warning for damaging wind activated for much of South Australia

Batten down the hatches because the end-of-winter warmth will give way to a very windy Tuesday, with damaging gusts of up to 90km/h forecast for many parts of SA.

A cold front moving across SA on Tuesday will see winds increasing, prompting severe weather warnings in place for much of the state.

Severe weather warnings for potentially damaging winds are active for parts of Adelaide Metropolitan, the Mount Lofty Ranges in the Adelaide Hills, the Lower Eyre Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Lower South East, Yorke Peninsula, Murraylands and Upper South East districts.

The potentially damaging winds – averaging 60-70km/h with peak gusts of about 90km/h – are expected to start developing from late this morning.

Bureau of Meteorology’s Simon Timcke told FIVEaa despite the cold front moving in, South Australians could expect it to stay sunny and dry for most of today with a maximum of 23C for the city.

However, tomorrow could see a few showers develop with cooler conditions and a top of 17C for the city for Wednesday.

Thursday is expected to be partly cloudy with only a slight chance of a shower with a top of 22C, before another front is expected to roll in on Friday with a high chance of showers continuing into Saturday and Sunday and a top of 19C tipped for the weekend.

Saturday, August 31: Partly cloudy with clearing shower and fresh NW winds. Min – 12. Max – 19.

Sunday, September 1: Mostly cloudy with possible shower and fresh NW winds. Min – 12. Max – 19.
