Severe heatwave warning issued for several SA districts as temperatures hit 40C on Sunday
A severe heatwave warning has been issued as parts of the state brace for a heatwave.
South Australians are being urged to keep cool and hydrated as a heatwave sweeps across the state.
Riverland, Flinders, Mid North and the North East Pastoral are expected to bear the brunt of the heat, with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing a severe heatwave warning for the districts.
It said severe heatwave conditions are “expected to gradually contract to northeastern parts of SA over the next few days before easing throughout by mid week”.
“Widespread Severe heatwave conditions are no longer expected through the North West
Pastoral district however Low Intensity heatwave conditions are expected to persist until mid week,” the bureau said.
“Locations likely to be impacted include Jamestown, Moomba, Oodnadatta and Renmark.”
Meanwhile, large swathes of the state will see a low-intensity heatwave.
Authorities are urging residents to cool their homes and check on the young, older and unwell people.
Marino mum Maggie Porter takes her children to the Big Wedgie in West Beach to cool down every summer but this weekend was an extra special visit.
Her daughter Adelaide celebrated her 10th birthday with friends and family at the giant inflatable water-slide. “They had a ball,” Ms Porter said.

She said her kids will be sailing at Brighton and visiting the beach this week to keep cool.
The air temperature in Adelaide hit 40C at 4:30pm on Sunday with Monday expected to reach a top of 38C before dropping to a top of 26C on Tuesday.
