SA weather forecast: Storms forecast for Adelaide on Sunday after record-breaking heat
Our unseasonably warm late winter has been brought to an end, with temperatures plunging, gusty winds and rain.
After unseasonable warmth, South Australia has been hit with a windy, wet, and storm-filled Sunday.
Rain and gusty winds have swept across parts of the state with the mercury dropping rapidly in the city on Sunday afternoon.
Wind gusts up to 61km/h in the city and 78km/h in the northern and southern suburbs have been recorded.
The State Emergency Service started receiving calls in the afternoon for felled trees at Balhannah in the Adelaide Hills, Payneham in Adelaide’s east and Mundulla in the South-East.
They had responded to about 20 calls for help by 3pm.
About 2mm of rain had fallen in the city to 3.30pm, with up to 10mm recorded in the southern suburbs and parts of the Adelaide Hills. Further afield, 12.6mm has been recorded at Port Lincoln.
After a balmy Saturday night in the city when the mercury only fell to 16C, temperatures peaked at 18.8C before plunging down to 12C around 3pm.
More broadly across the state, the northeastern pastoral districts had rain earlier, which cleared in the afternoon, with winds and further showers developing across SA’s agricultural areas during the morning.
Later on Sunday, the southern coasts are predicted to see the rain, with the possibility of gusty thunderstorms across the southern agricultural area.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a marine wind warning for the remainder of Sunday and into Monday for much of coastal SA.
A marine wind warning is in place on Sunday for Adelaide Metropolitan Waters, Far West Coast, Upper West Coast, Central Coast, South Central Coast, Spencer Gulf, Gulf St Vincent, Investigator Strait, Upper South East Coast and Lower South East Coast.
For Monday, marine wind warnings are in place for the South Central Coast, Upper South East Coast and Lower South East Coast.

The rain and storms come after Oodnadatta in the state’s Far North broke SA’s August temperature record not once – but twice in two days.
The mercury hit 39.4C at 3.48pm on Saturday, which topped 38.5C on Friday.
The previous August record stood since 1946 at 36.5C.
