Husband’s emotional interview as search for Queensland mother Julie Schutt continues

Julie Schutt travelled to South Australia for a trip of a lifetime when she vanished without a trace.

Police are searching farm outbuildings in a desperate bid to find a missing mother who vanished while on holiday with her husband.

Julie Schutt, 48, was on a road trip with husband Cliff when she went missing from Streaky Bay, SA, on Sunday.

Cliff said he went out to get some dinner menus but when he came back she was gone.

CCTV shows Julie walking down the street but she has not been seen or heard from since.

Police have not ruled out the possibility that the mother-of-three may have left Streaky Bay in someone else‘s vehicle.

In an interview with 9News, Cliff said he was struggling to cope with the situation and just wanted to find his wife.

“I’m very up and down. There’s moments of falling apart and then I’m just numb,” he said.

“I just want to find her.”

Julie’s brother, Todd, travelled to Streaky Bay on Wednesday to look for his sister.

Speaking about the couple’s road trip, Todd said they had previously visited Uluru.

“They went to Ayers Rock, then travelled down here, and they were going to see a lot of the countryside,” he told 7NEWS.

“When it’s the early days, you’ve got a bit of hope that she’ll come back or she’ll be found very quickly.

“Please come back, we need you.”

SA Police, including STAR Group officers, Mounted Operations, Polair, State Tactical Response Group, Eyre Western Local Service Area, Country Fire Service (CFS), and State Emergency Service (SES), launched a significant search effort on Sunday when the alarm was raised about Julie’s disappearance.

As time passes, authorities are increasingly concerned for Julie’s welfare since she is not familiar with the area, did not have personal belongings with her, and there have been no sightings of her.

While police have no evidence of foul play, the 48-year-old mother’s disappearance is considered out of character.

The search effort was reduced to local police and volunteers on Thursday.

“As time goes on, concerns for her wellbeing are increasing,” Superintendent Paul Bahr said.

“We’ve received no reports from anyone that has sighted her or been able to identify her, from the Streaky Bay area.”

Police initially received a report from a member of the public, who believed they had spotted woman matching Julie’s appearance hitchhiking near the corner of Jessie Flat Rd and Jubilee Rd between 8.30am and 10.30am on Monday.

“We had a member of the public who sighted a hitchhiker on a road near Streaky Bay and we’re still exploring that piece of information,” Mr Bahr said.

He said police had now discounted that report.

Julie is described as 170cm tall, with dark shoulder-length hair, and was last seen wearing jeans and a blue striped top with a star in the middle and light coloured boots.

Police are urging anyone who has seen Julie or with any information on her whereabouts to contact the Police Assistance Line immediately on 131 444.
