Homemade bomb found inside victim’s Port Pirie West home after alleged break-in
A man was arrested in hospital after police made a surprising discovery while searching his home in relation to a suspected break-in.
A South Australian man has been arrested in hospital after police allegedly found a homemade bomb in his Port Pirie home while investigating a suspected break-in and robbery on Sunday morning.
Police were called to the home in Port Pirie West, a coastal suburb in the state’s mid-north region, about 12.45am in relation to an alleged break-in and robbery.
The victim alleged a person broke into his home and threatened him before he was hit in the head with a metal object.
The 32-year-old man alleged the male suspect stole his wallet containing cash and cards before he chased them off the property.
The victim was subsequently hospitalised and treated for non-life threatening injuries while authorities established a crime scene at his home.
During the search of the property, police allegedly found the homemade bomb as well as a pen gun, ammunition, four gel blasters, two expandable batons, a homemade taser, a trafficable amount of cannabis and other drug paraphernalia.
The homeowner was arrested in hospital and charged with possessing a firearm without licence, three counts of possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing ammunition without a licence, and three counts of contravening an intervention order.
Police are still searching for the man that broke into the Port Pirie West home.
He is described as being aged in his 20s, 170cm tall with blonde hair.
