‘He slipped’: Heartbreaking image amid search for teen Medhi Habibi

Heartbreaking photos have emerged after a teenager went missing off rocks by an ocean in Adelaide’s south on Father’s Day.

The broher of a missing teenager has been pictured sitting alone near where the 17-year-old was swept off rocks.

Mehdi Habibi celebrating Father’s Day with his family at Victor Harbour, 83km south of Adelaide, when he slipped off the rocks about 3.15pm on Sunday.

SA Police co-ordinated a search and rescue effort, which included, Polair and local surf lifesaving and search and rescue, but unfortunately the teen is yet to be found.

His brother Sahil Habibi saw the horror moment unfold.

“He slipped, he dipped under the water,” he told the Adelaide Advertiser.

On Tuesday, Sahil was seen sitting alone near where his brother went missing as the search continued.

Medhi and Sahil, along with their mother, had only moved to Adelaide from Pakistan in November to join their father, who moved to Australia in 2010.

The family is originally from Pakistan, according to the Adelaide Advertiser, with the weekend marking the first Father’s Day they’d all been together in 14 years.

Medhi’s aunt, Fahima Habibi, said the family hasn’t been able to sleep since he went missing.

“Everyone is worried, everyone is not sleeping,” Ms Habibi said.

“(His mother) is very upset. Everyone is upset.”

Superintendent Joanne Howard on Sunday said the search would continue at daylight on Monday for the teenage boy.

“We would like to thank the local community and emergency services for their assistance with the search,” he said.

“We will continue to search with the assistance of local emergency services and other resources tomorrow.”
