Adelaide and SA weather: Wind, rain and hail forecast this weekend

If you thought Friday was wet and miserable in Adelaide – today is set to be even worse, with the bureau predicting more rain, gusty winds and even hail – and a wintry top of 15C.

Eastern Australia faces wild storms, large hailstones

The wet weather tipped to sweep over SA into the weekend has well and truly arrived as a “vigorous cold front” brings chilly temperatures to the southern states.

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Miriam Bradbury said we’re in for “a pretty wintry weekend ahead”.

“May is really the month where we start to see these strong fronts coming through, bringing those wintry bursts of air from the south,” she said.

“It’s nothing unseasonable but it will feel cold nonetheless.”

After rain swept Adelaide on Friday, the Bureau of Meteorology is predicting more of the same on Saturday, with a maximum of 15C, a high chance of showers and the possibility of hail in the hills and southern suburbs in the afternoon.

Overnight temperatures are expected to drop to 9C.

The wet weather will remain on Sunday, with a maximum forecast of 16C with showers, before overnight temperatures drop to 6C.

On Monday, the bureau has forecast a maximum of 17C with a slight chance of rain and light south-westerly winds of up to 20km/h during the day, easing towards the afternoon.

A warmer change is predicted on Wednesday, as temperatures climb to a maximum of 20C, with light winds of 15 to 20km/h becoming east to north-easterly.

Similar cooler conditions are predicted in the hills, with maximum temperatures on Saturday and Sunday of 11C, and overnight temperatures of 6C on Saturday and 4C on Sunday in Stirling.

On Monday, a maximum temperature of 13C and overnight minimum temperature of 5C is forecast for Stirling, which will increase by one degree on Tuesday, before a change of mostly sunny weather on Wednesday and Thursday.

Rain and showers were forecast for Mt Barker on Saturday, with a maximum temperature of 13C, and the same on Sunday, with overnight temperatures of 3C.
