Police are on high alert after catching wind of a bus of Instagram influencers encouraging Aboriginal people to binge drink alcohol in a declared dry zone.

The disturbing video was uploaded from Coober Pedy in South Australia on Monday as part of the bus’ mission to “find Australia’s best house party”.

Footage showed locals of the remote community being given beer and bourbon to drink from a “beer snorkel”, with some skolling the alcohol and others spitting it out.

“We are here in Coober Pedy. Let’s see what this town’s about,” a man was heard saying at the start of the video, which has been removed from Instagram along with the account.

Keeping or drinking alcohol is illegal in dry zones as the state government attempts “to curb alcohol-related problems and anti-social behaviour in public areas”.

Anyone who has or drinks alcohol in a dry area can be fined up to $1,250 or be given an on-the-spot fine of $160.

Supplying alcohol to people in a dry zone also carries a hefty fine, with the bus potentially eligible to be slapped with a $20,000 penalty.

There is serious concern planned stops of the vehicle’s journey around Australia are predominantly scheduled for at-risk areas, with the bus arriving at Uluru in the Northern Territory on Tuesday.

According to a map the account previously shared, the bus would pass also pass through Darwin before travelling down Western Australia then driving back east.

Actions displayed in the video have been widely condemned, including by South Australia’s Aboriginal Affairs Minister, Kyam Maher, who labelled it “disgusting”.

“It’s disgusting, quite frankly. The police have been notified, and the Office for the Commissioner of Liquor and Gambling is also looking into it,” Mr Maher said, ABC reported.

Police have been in touch with the group and “moved them on”, according to Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia chief executive Shane Mohor.

He feared they would caused more ruckus at their next location, which he believed was to be Alice Springs.

“I have been in touch with Nganampa Health Service in the APY Lands to let them know about this incident and that this group are planning to head their way,” he said.

Prior to the account being removed from Instagram, its profile said the bus was “travelling around Australia in 2022” and was “on the hunt to find Australia’s best house party”.
