In the opening quarter of the Pies contest against Essendon, Ginnivan was taken around the neck in a tackle by Mason Redman but no free kick was awarded.

On Monday the league announced the wrong call was made and Ginnivan should have been awarded a free kick.

Ginnivan didn’t miss a beat on Monday as he jumped on his personal Instagram account to make one simple, albeit brilliant, update.

The forward star updated his profile picture with an image of Redman’s right arm tightly around his neck as he lay on the turf.

Jack Ginnivan has caused major uproar in 2022 all from his free-kick drawing abilities as he lures opponents into tackling him high.

The divisive star has had fans up in arms all season long, with opinions divided over the tactic which sees him drop at the knees and lift one arm up to ensure the tacklers arm slides around his neck.

It quickly became a major talking point with the AFL prior to round 19 putting teams and players on notice, issuing a warning that any player who ducks, drops or shrugs into a tackle to draw high contact will not receive a free kick and will instead be told to play on.

While not explicitly stating the hard line stance on the “exploitation” of the rule was due to Ginnivan, it was hard to see it had not been brought in because of the Pies star.

Mark Robinson says the AFL has “lost control” over their officiating of Ginnivan, with the Pies star not getting the whistle like other players.

“I do think he lowered a little bit,” Robinson told Fox Footy’s AFL360.

“But the crudeness of that tackle, it was a hard crude tackle, we must outlaw that ahead of him dropping a little bit.

“We just need common sense.

“This one, that is a crude tackle, and the crude tackle must be paid against on something like that.

“We’ve lost control and we’ve got to get it back.”

AFL360 co-host Gerard Whateley said Ginnivan had been “victimised” throughout the whole dropping the knees tackle debate.

“I simply don’t accept that (Ginnivan was responsible) as a premise,” he said.
