Road Safety Campaign: Brisbanites are jaywalking at alarming rates

Three pedestrians have been sent to hospital after a car lost control and ploughed into them following a Big Bash cricket match at the Gabba in Brisbane last night.

They were thrown through a storefront window by the car, which left the road and mounted the footpath before smashing into the shop.

The game had been over for around 30 minutes and hundreds of people were making their way home from the stadium when the incident happened.

Queensland Ambulance Service medical director Stephen Rashford said the pedestrians, a 23-year-old man, 28-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, were taken to hospital with lower body injuries, mostly cuts.

All three were treated for minor injuries.

Dr Rashford said it was lucky no one was badly injured and it didn’t occur earlier when most people were leaving the cricket.

“This was a very close shave for emergency services who responded very quickly,” he said.

The 35-year-old male driver was also taken to hospital for treatment.

A spokesman for Queensland Police told news.com.au they were awaiting the results of a blood test to determine if he was under the influence at the time of the crash. The results could take a number of weeks.

Investigators are also urging witnesses or anyone with footage of the 1992 maroon Nissan Skyline sedan in the area prior to the incident, to come forward.

Stanley St, where the incident happened, was closed until 2am as police completed their investigation.
