A three-year old girl is fighting for life after almost drowning at a pool party
A three-year old girl is fighting for life in hospital after she nearly drowned at a pool party on the weekend.
A three-year old girl who was dragged from the bottom of a backyard swimming pool is fighting for life in hospital.
The girl was at a birthday party that was attended by several adults and children who had all left the pool area, but kept the gate open to allow the children to move between the pool and the rest of the party.
Queensland Police acting superintendent Scott Knowles said the adults and children were distracted by a jumping castle when the toddler entered the pool area and reached for an inflatable mattress that was floating in the pool
He said several minutes later the homeowner located the young girl in the pool.
The incident happened on the Gold Coast about 2.30pm on Sunday, at Nebraska Court, Oxenford.
“He grabbed her and brought her back up, he had to resuscitated her, so she had actually stopped breathing,” he said.
“He managed to resuscitate her and she is currently in a coma in the hospital, we don’t know the extent of the injuries at this point in time.
Acting superintendent Knowles said it was a timely to remind everyone with the warmer weather approaching to make sure pool gates were kept closed and large bodies of water were safe from young people.
“Please watch your kids because this sort of tragedy could certainly be a lot worse than what it is at the moment,” he said.
“Please just be aware of pools and security.”
The matter is now being investigated by the Child Protection Investigation Unit.
