Man wielding two knives shot by police multiple times on the Gold Coast
A man allegedly wielding two knives was shot multiple times by police last night and has undergone surgery this morning for his injuries.
A man allegedly wielding knives who charged at police after he was approached for causing a disturbance was shot multiple times by officers on the Gold Coast last night.
The man was shot after he allegedly lunged at police, after they had repeatedly asked him to drop his weapons.
Police were called to Wentworth Avenue in Molendinar, a small industrial suburb on the Gold Coast last night, with reports that the man was armed with two knives and was creating a disturbance.
The officers arrived at the scene and allegedly found the man with two knives. After being asked repeatedly to drop the knives by officers, the man charged at the officers and was shot at by police and hit in the torso, according to a statement from Queensland Police.
“The man then charged at them and officers have discharged a number of shots for their service firearms,” police said in a statement today.
“The man was struck a number of times in the torso area and was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition where he is currently receiving treatment.”

According to reports, five to six gunshots were heard at the scene in quick succession. The man reportedly underwent surgery today.
Police have established a crime scene at Wentworth Avenue.
“As with all critical incidents, the Ethical Standard Command have been advised and will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident,” police said.
“Local officers are supporting their colleagues and the Police Union is offering support to officers who attended the scene.”
