Girl found dead with throat slashed at Gold Coast home in Queensland

A 46-year old woman has been charged with murder after a girl, 10, was found dead with her throat slashed at a Gold Coast home.

Police have charged a woman with murder after a 10-year-old-girl was found dead with her throat slashed inside her Gold Coast home on Tuesday night.

The woman “is known to the girl,” police have said.

Emergency services were called to an apartment complex at Emerald Lakes in Carrara, just inland from Surfers Paradise, at around 6pm on Tuesday.

It is understood one of the girl’s parents made the grim discovery, The Courier Mail reported.

A man who called triple-0 was seen wearing a blue forensic suit at the scene.

Police attended the house just after 6pm on Tuesday night where the girl was found.

“Emergency services attempted to revive the girl; however, she was declared deceased at the scene,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

Early on Wednesday morning, police said a 46-year-old woman had been arrested in a nearby street about 10.25pm on Tuesday night.

She has since been charged with murder and will face Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.

At a press conference on Tuesday night, before the woman’s arrest, police Inspector Lou Serafim said police were treating the incident as suspicious.

“At this point in time, we’re treating the death of the 10-year-old girl as suspicious, and investigations are currently underway in relation to the demise of the girl,” Inspector Serafim said.

“The triple-0 call was made by a relative who was at the incident scene when they located the 10-year-old girl.”

“My staff, the … first responders, and also the emergency services from the Queensland ambulance service, have entered a scene that is quite traumatic,” she said.

A crime scene has been declared and the street where the girl was found was blocked off by police.

An ambulance remains in front of the property and a police tent was set up around 8pm.

A local resident told the Courier Mail that she was shaken by the news.

“It’s normally very quiet around here,” she said.

“I can’t believe it.”

Shocked residents took to community Facebook pages on Tuesday night.

“I live just down the road and I’m in complete shock, my heart goes out to this family, I cannot imagine what they must be feeling. RIP little angel,” one woman posted.
