Toddler drowns in Sydney backyard pool
A toddler has died after being pulled unconscious from a pool in Sydney, hours after a brother and sister were rescued from a lagoon on the NSW Central Coast.
A toddler has drowned after she was pulled unconscious from a backyard swimming pool in Sydney’s west.
The girl, two, was pulled from the water on Wednesday evening and was treated by paramedics at the scene but later died in hospital, AAP reports.
Emergency services were called to a home on Greenbank Drive in Werrington Downs just before 8pm. She was rushed to Nepean Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Police have established a crime scene at the Sydney home. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
The tragic drowning incident comes just hours after two children, aged six and four, were rescued from a lagoon at Avoca Beach on the NSW Central Coast.
The boy, four, was pulled from the water unconscious and flown in a critical condition by a CareFlight helicopter at 6pm. He remains in a stable condition at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
The girl, six, was taken to Gosford Hospital in a stable condition.
Surf Life Savers from the beach assisted with the rescue. Off-duty doctors on the scene also assisted with treatment.
