The Daily Telegraph’s journalists and photographers cleaned up at the annual Kennedy Awards for excellence in journalism on Friday night.
The Daily Telegraph has cleaned up at the annual Kennedy Awards for excellence in journalism.
Photographer John Grainger was one of several category winners, taking out the award for outstanding news photography for his image of newly-elected Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on an early morning foray from his front door wearing a Newtown Jets footy jersey and some serious bed hair.
It was Mr Albanese’s first day as Prime Minister.
Crime reporters Mark Morri and Josh Hanrahan and a team of others, including deputy editor Anna Caldwell and editor Ben English, took out a joint award for outstanding crime reporting for their online series on Sydney’s crime gangs, called The War.
Matt Logue won the Peter Frilingos award for outstanding sports journalism for his coverage of star female basketballer Liz Cambage.
And young journalist of the year went to Angira Bharadwaj, for her extensive coverage of the pressures facing hospitals during Covid.
The awards were held at a ceremony at Royal Randwick on Friday night.
