Sydney restaurants are serving up traditional Thanksgiving fare such as roast turkey and pumpkin pie
Aussie chefs are serving up traditional Thanksgiving fare such as roast turkey and pumpkin pie.
’TIS the season for Australians to embrace American holidays; first it was Halloween and now it’s Thanksgiving.
Originally celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, turkey, pumpkin pie, key lime tart and more will make an appearance on Thanksgiving menus in Sydney restaurants next Thursday.
Chris Schlimmer, head chef of New Orleans-themed restaurant Nola Smokehouse and Bar, says they’re putting on a spread due to demand.
A banquet menu will feature traditional favourites including a whole turkey, sides such as spinach salad with hot maple bacon dressing and blue cheese, as well as classic American desserts such as pecan pie.
While the demand is being driven by expats, Schlimmer believes that Australians are also curious about dishes they’ve heard about through US pop culture.
