“Goodbye Australia”: Salim Mehajer announces he is leaving the country
AFTER a scandal-plagued couple of months, disgraced Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer has announced he is leaving Australia.
SALIM Mehajer appears to be leaving Australia.
After a scandal-plagued couple of months, the disgraced Auburn deputy mayor made a mysterious Instagram post on Saturday morning indicating he was leaving the country.
But never fear. It appears the move is not intended as a permanent one.
Under a picture of a boat sitting in front of the Sydney Harbour Bridge with the words, “Good-Bye Australia” superimposed across the sky, Mr Mehajer told his nearly 300,000 followers of his intentions to leave on Saturday morning.
“Will be taking off to pursue my dream challenges,” he wrote. “I’ll be back”.
The mysterious post made no further revelations as to where he plans to travel or what his dream challenges are.
The departure announcement comes just one day after his estranged wife Aysha Learmonth posted a picture of her return to Sydney, after spending the past couple of months in hiding.
When disturbing video footage of him threatening Aysha was aired on A Current Affair,he posted pictures with the 24-year-old and other friends toasting the show in defiance.
This was despite the videos showing the enraged former councillor threatening Aysha and threatening to rape her parents.
“Aysha, you’ve got five minutes to give me a call! Give me a call in five minutes ... I’m gonna rape your mum and your f***ing dad! Call me now!” he says in the video. “Aysha, I hope you die, you sl*t.
“I swear on the Koran, I swear on God, I’m not leaving today.
“And I hope you die, you f***ing sl*t. You f***ed 12 guys, you sl*t. You f***ed 12 guys. You f***ing sl*t. You f***ing sl*t.”
Police at the time said they were investigating the videos.
The 30-year-old’s departure announcement comes just a week after he attended the lavish wedding of his sister Kat Mehajer to IT engineer Ibraham Sakalaki, who are now believed to be honeymooning in Southeast Asia.
The Instagram post also comes just a day after the former Mrs Mehajer resurfaced in Sydney, after successfully evading media attention for the past couple of months.
Mr Mehajer’s wife of one year has, in her social media profiles, returned to her maiden name of Learmonth.
It also comes as the controversial figure announced a diversification of his business interests, by unveiling his own skincare range.
It was just over a year ago when the then-Auburn deputy mayor first came to national attention, when his and Aysha’s opulent wedding shut down a street in suburban Lidcombe.
The AVO hearing relating to his estranged wife is due to return to court this Thursday.
